Edgbaston Cricket Education Programme

ATO recently headed to Edgbaston Cricket Ground working on the Education Programme in partnership with both Warwickshire CC & Sandwell College. Designed for aspiring young cricketers, the workshop explored how gambling is increasingly intertwined with sport, particularly through sponsorship, advertising, and social media.

Sandwell College, Edgbaston Foundation and Warwickshire CCC have launched the Edgbaston Cricket Education Programme. This exciting initiative offers students the opportunity to gain valuable skills and explore a range of careers within professional sport—whether as a player, coach, physio, marketeer, or beyond.

The session drew on real-life experience to open up honest conversations around the pressures young athletes face in today’s sports environment—where gambling promotion is often ever-present. It encouraged participants to question the normalisation of betting in sport, understand the potential impact on their lives, and gain the confidence to make informed choices that protect their wellbeing and future careers.

We've been working with Against The Odds for some time now and the impact the organisation has had on our students has been fantastic. Hard hitting topics have really hit home with our young athletes & students, challenging them to talk/share any concerns they have on gambling or wider addiction.
