About Aaron
What Sparked The Movement?
My name is Aaron Abbott, and for over a decade, I lived with a hidden addiction that nearly cost me everything. Today, that experience fuels a purpose: preventing others from walking the same path.
AARON ABBOTT

Despite a successful 12-year career in recruitment, I was silently battling a gambling addiction that began in college and escalated over time. In 2021, I hit rock bottom and finally asked for help. Six months into recovery, I realised I had lost over £250,000—and nearly lost myself.
As I reflected on my journey, I became deeply aware of the systemic issues behind gambling harm: the lack of education, the industry’s aggressive tactics, and how disproportionately this affects young people and low-income communities.
I founded Against The Odds to turn personal pain into collective progress. We don’t just raise awareness—we help organisations drive measurable social impact, empower future generations, and reshape how the UK tackles gambling harm.
